About the Artwork:
Femme à l'amphore et grenades
The original artwork for Femme à l'amphore et grenades was created by Henri Matisse in 1952 using his revolutionary late-life technique he called "drawing with scissors" (dessin aux ciseaux). This method involved cutting figures and shapes directly from large sheets of paper previously painted with vibrant gouache paints. This technique allowed him to unify line, colour, and form in a uniquely direct way.
The work offered is a high-quality silk screen print (serigraph) reproduction of this specific cut-out. Serigraphy is a stencil-based printing process where ink is forced through a fine mesh screen onto the paper below. This method is used here to achieve a precise, single-colour result that captures the integrity of Matisse's line work.
