About the Artwork:

The Art of the Granolithograph: "The Houses Hanging Underneath the Woods"

This exquisite work by Friedensreich Hundertwasser is a masterpiece of Swiss printing craftsmanship, created using the rare and patented Granolithograph process.

Why this piece is extraordinary:

Continuous Tone Masterpiece: Unlike standard commercial prints, the Granolitho process is entirely grid-free (screenless). It mimics the artist’s original brushstrokes with such precision that it captures every nuance of the original mixed-media painting.

The Power of Color:

To capture Hundertwasser’s vibrant vision, this piece was meticulously printed using a complex series of colors—original versions of this work utilized up to 19 different colors with additional metallic foil embossings in 3 colors.

Premium Archival Paper:

Printed on the world-renowned 270 g/m² Rives paper (handmade paper from France). This acid-free paper ensures that the artwork remains vivid and preserved for generations.

Exclusive Edition:

Published by the prestigious DACO-Verlag Günter Bläse in Stuttgart and printed by the master printers at Lichtdruck AG in Switzerland. This specific reproduction belongs to a limited edition, often numbered up to 1,800 copies.

A Glimpse into Hundertwasser’s Vision

"The Houses are Hanging Underneath the Woods" (Work No. 699) is a powerful manifesto for organic architecture. Hundertwasser painted this as a dream of a world where forests live in storeys and human lodgings are integrated into nature. It later served as the inspiration for his real-world architectural masterpiece, the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna.
